A daily commitment to keeping your gums healthy is necessary for success. Studies estimate that between 40-80% of the adult population has some stage of gum disease and aren’t even aware of it. Early gum disease is virtually unnoticeable, with little swelling or pain. At most you might experience some minor bleeding from your gums when you brush and floss. At later stages, gum disease can affect your general health, not just your oral health.
Brushing and flossing are important first steps, and you should brush each time after you eat. Adding mouthwash is a good next step. The only way to remove this calculus is by scaling and root planing, expensive and painful procedures that require multiple visits to the dentist or periodontist.
