Teeth whitening is ideal for patients who have healthy teeth unrestored (hollow) and gums that want a brighter smile. Patients with yellow tones to their teeth respond best. But this cosmetic procedure is not recommended for everyone.

In recent years, teeth whitening has become a huge phenomenon. A whiter, brighter smile is one of the first things people notice about your appearance. It’s no mystery that whiter teeth make us look better, younger, more attractive, more confident. This is why men and women of all ages are opting for teeth whitening to improve your smile.

Although teeth whitening is very popular, there are still many people no idea of the wide range of different products and procedures that are already available. Today, there are hundreds of products that all claim to give you whiter teeth in a very short time. But the results can range from impressive disappointing, or even nonexistent (if you have selected a fraudulent product.

How Teeth whitening Works

Have you ever wanted a white, showy, perfect “Hollywood” smile? You are not alone. An estimated ten million Americans spend a whopping U.S. $ 1700 million in tooth whitening products and services this year. Teeth whitening is the most common cosmetic service provided by dentists, and there are an increasing number of teeth-counter whitening products to choose from.

Teeth whitening is not recommended or will be less successful in the following circumstances:

Age and pregnancy problems. teeth whitening is not recommended for children under 16 years. This is because the pulp chamber, or nerve of the tooth, is enlarged until this age. Tooth whitening so may irritate the pulp or cause it to become sensitive. Teeth whitening is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.
eeth whitening for sensitive teeth and allergies to products. People with sensitive teeth and gums, receding gums and / or defective restorations should consult with your dentist before using a teeth whitening system. Anyone allergic to peroxide (the whitening agent) should not use a teeth whitening product.
Gum disease, worn enamel, cavities and exposed roots. Individuals with gum disease or teeth with worn enamel are generally discouraged from undergoing a tooth whitening procedure. Cavities should be treated before undergoing any teeth whitening procedure. This is because teeth whitening solutions penetrate into any existing decay and the internal areas of the tooth, which can cause sensitivity. In addition, teeth whitening procedures will not work on exposed tooth roots because roots do not have a layer of enamel.
Fillings, crowns and other restorations. Color fillings and composite materials used in dental restorations (crowns, veneers, bonding, bridges) do not whiten. Therefore, with a bleaching agent on teeth that do not contain mixed results in teeth whitening bleaching restorations, in this case, so the teeth without restorations appear lighter than those with restorations. Any teeth whitening procedure should be done before placement of fillings, adhesives, veneers, crowns, dentures, or porcelain restorations in order to match the best degree of whitening of your new tooth color. A minimum of 2 weeks after a tooth whitening procedure should be allowed before crowns, bondings, or veneers are completed. This will give sufficient time for the enamel remineralization and optimize the bond strength. Color fillings must be replaced after the bleaching process is complete. Individuals with numerous restorations that would result in irregular teeth whitening may be better considering bonding, veneers or crowns rather than a teeth whitening system. Ask your dentist what strategy may be best for you.
Unrealistic expectations. People who expect their teeth to be a new “white blindness” may be disappointed with the results. Smokers should be aware that their results will be limited unless they refrain from continued smoking, particularly during the bleaching process. A guide to healthier with a reasonable degree of whiteness to achieve with a whitening process that would give a natural look to a person’s teeth color is slightly whiter than the whites of the eyes.
Dark-stained teeth. Yellow-ish teeth respond well to bleaching, brownish teeth will not respond as well, and teeth stained gray or purple, can not respond well to bleaching at all. Blue-gray stains caused by tetracycline is more difficult to relieve and may require up to 6 months of home treatments or several appointments at the clinic to alleviate successfully. Teeth that have dark stains may be better candidates for other lighting options such as veneers, bonding, or crowns. Your dentist can discuss the options that best fits your situation.

Are all types of teeth whitening procedures, the degree of whiteness varies from individual to individual depending on the condition of the teeth, the nature of the stain, bleach concentration and length of time and money system used.

Ensuring healthy teeth in canines is an important part of owning dogs. If tartar is allowed to build up on the teeth, there are severe side effects which can actually be life threatening.

I have nothing against vets for this whatsoever. That method for cleaning canine teeth is highly effective and it is one of the services their business offers. However, there is a severe downside to canine teeth scaling. I suggest before you have this done to your dog, you first go onto the Internet and search Google images. In there you will find photos of dogs undergoing the procedure. Although it is not as invasive as a surgery, I think you’ll be surprised exactly how the process looks.

Your dog will have to undergo general anesthetic. Although most dogs do fine with the drugs used for anesthesia, there are a significant number who do not. In fact, there are deaths associated with the anesthetic. It is especially dangerous for older dogs. Unfortunately, it is often the senior canines that require the cleanings the most. As they age, the tartar seems to build up more easily than when they were a puppy.

Just to put the risk in perspective, if the rate of human deaths during anesthesia was as high as the one for dogs is, it would not be allowed. Always ask for advice from your vet about the side effects…especially if you have an older dog.

Also, did you know that after the scaling the dog has to go on a round of antibiotics? Yes, usually it is a ten day course of drugs that your dog will have to take. The reason for this is that during the scaling there is often blood present while probing around and under the gums. When the blood stream is vulnerable to the infection of bacteria which is in the tartar, there is risk that it can migrate to other parts of the body and cause severe side effects.

These drugs can often lead to stomach distress in some pets and other side effects that should be dealt with. And just a note of reminder here to pet owners; once a round of these anti-biotics are started, they must be completed totally even if there are no symptoms and the pet seems to be fine and healthy. Stopping the drugs too soon will often lead to the formation resistant bacteria in dogs. This is a very important advice to follow.

What I suggest is not waiting for the tartar to build up heavily. Instead, begin the process of dog teeth cleaning in a natural and safe way before the need for tooth scaling is required. If the tartar is severe, it may be in the dog’s best interest to remove the buildup as soon as possible. But if the teeth can be cleaned safely and effectively at home with all natural products, owners should consider this method.

Today’s dental materials are nothing short of miraculous. Truly, they can help repair and restore damaged teeth so that they look “almost new.” In fact, most laypeople generally can’t tell when restorative work has been done.

These new materials, which construct veneers, dentures, grounds and bridges — as well as, in some cases, splints, orthodontic appliances, and dental implant components, can be used for everything from “instant tooth whitening” on otherwise healthy teeth to complete replacement or reconstruction of teeth that have been damaged. No longer your grandmother’s denturesToday’s reconstructive techniques with these new dental materials can look entirely natural, and in some cases can be done as implants as an alternative to dentures. This can give you an entirely natural looking smile, so that no one but you has to know you have had dental work done. What can cause the need for dental restorative work? These days, all of us are living longer and healthier lives, and our teeth often don’t make that entire journey with us. Despite great advances in dental health care, a lifetime of cavities and poor dental hygiene, for example, can render you toothless by the time you’re in your 40s, 50s, or 60s, if neglect has been severe enough.

Oftentimes, for example, complete dental restorative work is needed if drug abuse has been a problem, especially methamphetamine use. Teeth are often destroyed in situations like this, even if good oral hygiene practices are otherwise followed. Then again, there are those of us who simply weren’t born with great teeth. If your teeth are soft or simply more prone to decay, no matter how hard you try to practice good hygiene and keep up with dental visits, you, too, can be facing tooth loss that will require partial or full dental restoration with dental materials. Finally, gum health, too, is a factor in the health of teeth. If you overtly “try” to practice good oral hygiene and end up brushing too hard, you can cause your gums to recede, sometimes to the point of having very loose teeth that simply fall out or need to be pulled because the roots are too exposed. All of these things can make you a candidate for dental restoration, and fortunately, there are dental materials and skilled health practitioners available that can help you have exactly the smile you want — even if you weren’t born with it or have lived long enough to risk losing it.

In addition, dental procedures may be able to help you save already healthy teeth so that you don’t have problems later on down the road, such as if you need orthodontic help. Again, fortunately, materials and skilled healthcare practitioners exist that can help you take care of these things as you need to.What dental materials are used in restoration? For example, veneers are meant to look entirely natural and go on over your own teeth. They are a mix of powder, liquid and porcelain or ceramic applied to a model of your tooth in different colors and layers so that the end result looks natural. These porcelain powders are fired in a special kiln that ranges from between 1500 and 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, they are sculptured until they look like your own teeth and will fit perfectly. To get the models for your teeth, generally, molds of your teeth are taken in wax and then the veneers are molded around them.If you need dental implants (such as if you have lost one or more teeth), you may need a crown, partial denture, or bridge. Dental crowns, dentures and bridges require the application of porcelain or acrylic paste done in layers over a metal framework molded to your own mouth, with a small brush or spatula.

The excess material is then trimmed away so that the resulting restorative work looks completely natural. It’s then hardened in a furnace and is polished with turbine and/or electric powered hand tools.Allergies and dental materialsIt’s not common to experience an allergy to a dental material, but in some cases it may happen. Certain composites or cements, as well as certain metals, may cause an allergic reaction. You will likely be tested before procedures are done to make sure you don’t have any allergic reaction to any dental materials that are going to be used in the restoration. If you do have allergies, different materials can be substituted. You don’t have to live with an unnatural-looking or unattractive smile anymore. Today’s dental materials can help you be the best smile possible for you, even if you weren’t born with one. Why wait?

Forget False Teeth and Say Hello to the Future of Teeth Replacement with All on Four Dental Implants!

By: Derrick Ashley
Posted: Apr 11, 2011

If you are looking at an imminent future of edentulism (or ‘toothlessness’), then perhaps you have become acquainted with that extraordinary feat of modern dental science; All on Four dental implants. Yes, you read this right: new teeth in a single day. Thanks to All on Four dental implants, removable dentures or ‘false teeth’ have become one of those antiquities of medical science that, once essential, have largely become obsolete. So, if you were dreading the day that you would have to get the last of your failing teeth extracted and your own false teeth fitted, then fear not. If you enjoyed having permanent teeth once-upon-a-time, then All on Four dental implants offer incredible solutions that could only be believed in a fairy tale story!

All on Four Dental Implants: What They Are; How They Work

All on Four dental implants consist of the permanent affixing of a fully customized prosthetic dental bridge to – as the name suggests – four dental implants in the mouth. The dental bridge is essentially a rigid titanium frame structure that supports a full set of artificial ceramic teeth that are fabricated to be virtually indistinguishable from natural healthy teeth. While the concept of a bridge may sound very similar to that of removable dentures or false teeth, we can assure you right here and right now that they are not! First of all, the prosthetic bridge that is affixed to the All on Four dental implants is not removable and so, just like your once-healthy teeth, you take them with you everywhere:

• No removal at nighttime and after meals,

• They are cleaned just like normal teeth with regular brushing and flossing

• They do not shift around and cannot fall out

The real secret behind the success of All on Four dental implants is the precise positioning and careful angulation of the dental implants in regions of the mouth that naturally contain a greater volume of more atrophy-resistant bone tissue. This enables even those patients that present with advanced periodontal (gum) disease and a deplorable standard of oral health to get a second chance at beautiful a much better quality of life with a teeth replacement solution that is highly safe and successful.

All on Four Dental Implants: A Final Note

In spite of the incredible solutions afforded by All on Four dental implants, there are still millions of people that wear removable dentures and continue to have them fitted! One can only guess that dental science is undergoing an important transition, but in any case ‘false teeth’ – as they are colloquially known – are still around in spite of there being far more advanced and advantageous dental implant techniques such as All on Four dental implants.

Teeth Whitening – Find the Procedure That Suits you

By: Ron Mark

Who would not like a Hollywood smile? You know, one where your teeth are shiny white and match perfectly with the red of your lips. A smile that you want to use all the time, a smile that makes people instantly fall in love with you. However, this smile is not available to everyone. Moreover, while we might use the reddest of lipsticks, somehow they all fail to impress in combination with slightly yellowish teeth.

Naturally, cosmetic dentistry comes to mind, as the perfect solution. There are a number of whitening procedures offered by cosmetic dental treatments to make your smile whiter and brighter: starting with whitening toothpastes, at- home bleaching, whitening strips and gels up to laser bleaching and mouthpiece trays. These are but a few of the teeth whitening solutions offered by cosmetic dentistry, so obviously there is a bright palette from which you can choose.

Nevertheless, which procedure is right for me? – One could naturally ask, confused by the many teeth whitening possibilities. It is advisable that one should visit a professional to receive information about all possibilities. According to each specific case, the specialist will recommend the most appropriate dental whitening procedure that cosmetic treatments can provide. This is particularly important, since there are many debates concerning the best solutions offered by cosmetic dentistry. Many believe that a “do-it-in-the-shower” or “quick overnight” dental whitening is more than enough, while others argue that the old “at-home” dental bleaching procedures are way out, not to mention dangerous.

Cosmetic Dentistry Teeth Procedures

Teeth whitening, regardless of the whitening procedures used, is not for everyone. The ideal candidates for such a treatment are patients who have healthy teeth with no or very few fillings, and healthy gums. Nevertheless, cosmetic dentistry is not recommendable in the case of pregnant women, individuals with sensitive teeth, gum diseases or cavities. In such cases, dental bleaching treatments will very probably be much less successful, if not in vain.

However, if one insists on teeth whitening, one should know that such a procedure does not stand as a lifetime guarantee for white teeth. One needs to repeat periodically teeth whitening procedures, if he or she wants to maintain a permanent white color. In addition, if one expects radiantly white teeth as an immediate result after having undergone the cosmetic dental treatment, one might be slightly disappointed, as results may vary from case to case. Moreover, after the treatment, one has to avoid such products as tobacco, tea and coffee, as they cause yellowing and diminish the results of dental whitening remarkably.

These products cause external stains on the teeth. Nevertheless, teeth may also have internal or intrinsic stains caused by early administration of antibiotics or exposure to too much fluoride at an early age. Cosmetic dentistry takes it upon itself to clean internal stains as well, but dental whitening still has the best results in the case of surface stains caused by the above-mentioned products, as well as food and age.

Apart from the beautiful transformation that makes you feel better about yourself, cosmetic dental procedures may also have a number of side effects. Although there are no serious risks involved, one should have the following in mind: teeth may become temporarily sensitive and gum irritation may appear. These side effects result on the one hand, because of the solutions used in the whitening procedure, and on the other hand, because of an ill-fitting mouthpiece tray. It is possible to avoid such side effects with the use of high fluoride-containing products, which re-mineralize the teeth, the use of toothpaste for sensitive teeth or wearing the mouthpiece tray more often for shorter periods.

Laser Teeth Whitening Zapping Away to a Brighter Smile

Laser teeth whitening can be the remedy for you if you are unhappy with the way your teeth look. You may have thought about using home products or old time remedies. Dentists’ offices also offer other types of procedures such as bleaching, but none are as good as laser teeth whitening.

Many products on the market claim to be effective, but store bought brands cannot compare to professional service. Professional work may seem like an expensive choice compared to your local store but the long term health and cost to care for your teeth is something to take into consideration. How well a store bought product works and what type of chemicals they have is another concern.

Have you thought about the current color of your teeth? A professional dental office has the tools to properly determine what the color problem is. The important thing to know is that you have a natural tooth color and these colors also vary from one tooth to another.

How healthy your teeth are is something you must think about. A dentist is able to check you to make sure you have healthy teeth in the future. When you go for your visit you need to bring a list of any health conditions, medications you take, as well as letting your dentist know of past work that has been done. These are important factors that need to be taken into consideration before proceeding with your laser teeth whitening.

Comparison of this process to other types of whiteners reveals that there are significant advantages of the laser process over all other methods, with few disadvantages. In the past bleaching was one of the only ways to get whiter teeth and this meant lots of doctor visits and messy, time consuming, in home follow up care. Laser teeth whitening may seem expensive at first, but if you factor in your personal time as well as travel expense, you may find that it is actually the better deal. One disadvantage is there will be an instant change in how white your teeth are when you smile.

One office visit is all it takes for the laser whitening. The dentist will use a light and a special compound. This procedure will last about one or two hours. Some people will also need to complete the process at home.

Benefits of the laser whitening process:

Whiter teeth
Younger looking smile
Wrinkles or flaws you have may seem less obvious when people see your terrific smile
People may listen close since they are focusing our your mouth when they talk

The process is temporary. The results will be noticeable for about a year depending on you usual habits, but could last as long as two years or more. After making this financial investment in your smile, you may be more concerned with your daily health care which will extend the life of the procedure. Laser teeth whitening will be a benefit for your smile and the health of your teeth!

People are getting more and more beauty conscious day by day. They exercise to keep fit and take good care of their body. Healthy teeth forms an essential part of one’s health. While some would argue that it is the orthodontist who comes to our rescue from tooth trouble; others say that cosmetic dentistry is the not only caters to health teeth, it enhances the looks too. People are using techniques like laser bleaching worldwide to have a clean, white and healthy set of teeth. The techniques are quite simple. All we need is to buy a laser bleaching kit from the medical store and take it to a dentist and he would take care of the laser bleaching of our teeth.

The most effective and popular methods of teeth whitening is laser bleaching. It was invented in the early 80’s and has become popular over the years. It is popular as it gives better and faster results than a bleach tray used at home. Though, there are some companies selling laser bleaching devices which can be used at home; it is advisable to get it done from a dentist.

We need a bleaching gel and a laser beam for laser bleaching of teeth. Firstly, the teeth are exposed by placing retractors to pull away the cheek and the lips. This ensures that the teeth get maximum coverage of the light. Secondly, a protective casing is put over the cheeks and lips to protect it from the whitening agent. Thirdly, a coating is done on the gums to protect them from bleaching or else the gum gets irritated.

The gel used in laser whitening is more viscous than the one used in tray bleaching. This gel is applied over the teeth to remove the discoloration. To energize the gel, a laser beam which is nothing but a ray of argon light is beamed over the coated teeth. This ray of light oxidizes the gel which works from the enamel to the inside of the teeth. The oxidized gel removes the stains from the teeth. Hence, we get shining white teeth within no time.

The laser bleaching of teeth is more helpful in case of difficult stains which cannot be removed by tray bleaching. It is advisable to allow a dentist to perform the procedure of laser bleaching as he would be well equipped with the latest instruments and take necessary precautions.

There are many advantages of laser bleaching. Firstly, it is a thorough and quick procedure. Secondly, it is convenient as it is performed in a dentist’s office under expert guidance and thus saves lot of effort and time. Thirdly, the effects are long lasting as compared to other treatments.

Normally, laser bleaching of teeth takes a couple of sittings with the dentist to get good results. The cost of this procedure can be as high as 00 which can vary from dentist to dentist. One should take care to follow up with the dentist once the procedure is completed. After the procedure is performed, the teeth may become sensitive for some period of time.

These days every country including Boston is witnessing more tooth related issues in its people. This problem is increasing day by day and seems tough to be dealt with because of the changing food habits and an easy-to-go lifestyle of many. Things like tobacco intake and no regular checkups are obstructing Boston dental clinics from performing their job well. It is very common to find people who are facing dental decay and gums diseases. Such problems are observed more in developed nations because people there have more easy and relaxed life which compels them to stay away from a disciplined food and tooth care habits.

Boston dental believes in that the standard of living is the main reason behind most of the tooth related issues. People do not think twice before eating anything at a party. Wherever they go they get to eat fast food, lack of nutrition strengthens the scope of tooth loss. Moreover they do not bother to know how something can affect their dental health. It results in problems like plaque, jaw pain, cavities etc.

People do not find diseases related to teeth that deadly that may need their immediate attention. This careless attitude is the root cause of maximum problems that one can come across. Both the public and government need to think collectively for eradicating tooth problems from the nation. Some dentists believe that people do not go for a constructive dental care plan because they find it enormously expensive. They say that measures to eliminate dental problems would help many a patients who think the same.

Low in sugar and nutritious diet helps generate the capacity to fight tooth problems. It protects teeth from various threats like decay and bad breath. Sugary foods are considered to be the most dangerous eatables that result in tooth decay. A person who is fond of eating sweet snacks is ought to brush his teeth every time he takes in such stuff. Starches and sweets break down into an acidic wash that washes away tooth color.
